Ambassatours Gray Line, Atlantic Canada’s leading motor coach tour company publicly launched its IDLE-FREE campaign on Clean Air Day in Halifax. The company is the first tour bus company in Canada with a proactive reduced-idling strategy, selling drivers and passengers based on messages featuring children.See the company's IDLE-FREE video. Company president Dennis Campbell invited the public to view its’ IDLE-FREE “ambassador’s bus”, featuring “Rachel” , the grade two poster-girl of The Children’s Clean Air Network. “The media and public saw a big IDLE-FREE bus on Clean Air Day, but we’ve been working behind the scenes to train our drivers on the importance of cutting idle-time with The Children’s Clean Air Network for weeks now,” says Campbell. “Our drivers are buying-in and we’re confident we’ll be able to walk-the-talk over time on this public commitment.” “Our approach is simple and it’s proven effective; when drivers see and hear from children on smog and global warming, attitudes change relatively quickly,” says Ron Zima of The Children’s Clean Air Network. “This was a perfect fit for Ambassatours Gray Line, which was already promoting itself as an ideal way to travel and leave cars at home. At the same time, savings to their bottom line and cuts in greenhouse gas and pollutants will be substantial.” Known as “The Company with the Kilts,” Ambassatours Gray Line operates escorted motor coach tours across Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland & Labrador and New Brunswick, as well as chartering vehicles. About The Children’s Clean Air Network The Children’s Clean Air Network (CCAN) is a network of like-minded partners promoting “IDLE-FREE – the next smoke-free”. Their goal is to reduce needless vehicle emissions which will improve the quality of our air and reduce the threat from climate change. CCAN began as a grassroots reduced-idling campaign at Kingswood Elementary School, near Halifax. It’s now a volunteer, not-for-profit, registered in Nova Scotia. Partner organizations include: schools and school boards, businesses, media outlets, health organizations, and environmental advocacy organizations. Needless vehicle emissions are a serious threat to the health and future of our children and an enormous waste of resources.
